At MDP we know the importance of using the right material compounds
and producing products with the correct dimensional requirements
for the application. Years of experience and a strong commitment
to engineering static and Dynamic seals that perform beyond

Molded rubber compounds & shapes are used quite extensively in today’s diesel engines. From the typical O-ring, to custom shapes and edge molded gaskets that utilize a metal, or thermoplastic carrier with an o-ring shape elastomer molded to the edge of the gasket. Because of this, it is common to hear references to compounds like“Viton®”, “HNBR”, and Buna, but is it enough just to say that the seal is made from this, or that compound?
The answer is No!

Rubber compounds are just that, they are a blend of base polymer and various fillers, plasticizers, and cure agents that aid in processing and provide many of the properties that make the compound desirable. These properties include, but are not limited to strength, hardness, compression set resistance, temperature resistance, as well as processing.
